人类学影像通常存在的两种叙事——观察者/导演的叙事，和被拍摄者的叙事。二者通常需要共享一套知识构型与判断标准，也正是因此，人类学影像呈现出独特的视觉文化符号：
传统影像的意义在人类学范畴发生了轻微的滑动。时空保存/文献与档案意义通常居于首位，对文化记忆的塑造往往是人类学影像制作的首要因素，而在此之上的由影像语言承担的对话功能亦是对“本土”的强调，传统电影强调的艺术性则通常退居二者之后。在此，人类学影像在传统电影的美学意义上呈现独特的意义分层与折衷。

There are usually two narratives in anthropological images - the narrative of the observer/director, and the narrative of the photographed. The two usually need to share a set of knowledge structures and judgment standards. It is precisely for this reason that anthropological images present unique visual cultural symbols:
The meaning of traditional images has slipped slightly within the anthropological category. The preservation of time and space/the significance of documents and archives usually comes first, and the shaping of cultural memory is often the primary factor in anthropological image production. On top of this, the dialogue function performed by image language also emphasizes the "native". Traditional films The emphasis on artistry usually takes a back seat to both. Here, anthropological images present a unique layering and compromise of meaning in the aesthetic sense of traditional films.
